Surviving the 48

Bogwood successfully completed our entry to the 48 Hour Film Project — with 20 minutes to spare. Here’s how the 48 hours broke down:

Friday Night/Early Saturday

  • 7:00 PM – received genre, prop, character, and line of dialogue
  • 7:00 PM-8:00 PM – brainstormed 10 ideas
  • 8:25 PM – settled on an idea
  • 8:30-10:30 PM- acquired props, called cast, crew, and locations
  • 9:30 PM – outlined story
  • 12:30 PM – shooting script complete
  • 3:15 AM – asleep

Saturday

  • 4:30 AM – wake up; gather props and gear
  • 4:45 AM – Lead actress Jessi gets her hair done
  • 6:00 AM – call time at our first location
  • 9:00 AM – call time at our second location
  • 6:30 PM – wrap shooting
  • 7:00-9:15 PM – transcoded footage
  • 9:15-Midnight – picked takes; organized footage

Sunday

  • 5:00 AM – begin edit
  • Noon – rough cut complete
  • 4:00 PM – audio synching complete
  • 5:00 PM – color complete
  • 5:45 PM – audio mix complete
  • 6:15 PM – titles complete
  • 6:55 PM – rendering and two data DVDs burned
  • 7:20 PM – film handed in to 48 Hour Film Project Staff

  • Shooting script: 11 pages, 70+ shots
  • Film run time: 5 minutes, 6 seconds – including titles
  • Locations: 2
  • Actors with speaking roles: 10
  • Background actors: 3
  • Crew: 9
  • First time crew: 5
  • Injuries on set: 1 (lead actress Jessi got rug burns on her elbows)
